Insurance Reform

The U.S. Census Bureau reports that 45.7 million people lacked health insurance coverage in 2007. The lack of health insurance contributes to poor health in families, with studies showing that uninsured individuals are more likely to delay seeking care and more likely to report being in worse health than people with health coverage.

BCBSA believes that reducing the ranks of the uninsured and keeping quality healthcare affordable should be a top federal priority. To help reduce the number of uninsured, BCBSA supports a two-pronged approach: (1) tailored options to expand coverage; and (2) initiatives to address rising healthcare costs.
