Categories: Foster Public-Private Coverage Solutions

The mission of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation is to promote the wellness and well-being of Louisianians by supporting projects and programs for health- or education-related causes. The foundation’s two signature programs focus on improving the wellness and well-being of Louisiana children.

  • Smart Bodies was launched in 2005 to address the growing problem of childhood obesity in Louisiana as a joint effort by Blue Cross and the LSU AgCenter, a statewide research extension program in the LSU System. The Smart Bodies program is a private-public partnership working to provide schools with grades K-5 with an interactive education program designed to prevent childhood obesity.
  • The Angel Award is an annual statewide recognition program that awards funds to outstanding Louisianians working to improve the quality of life for the state’s children. More than 1,000 individuals from all walks of life and ranging in age from 17 to 93 have been nominated for the Angel Award since the program’s inception in 1995.
