Recognizing Physician Excellence Program

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida introduced its physician recognition program, Recognizing Physician Excellence (RPE), in September 2004 in an effort to recognize and reward physicians committed to delivering quality care and excellent service to their patients.  RPE assesses performance through extensive metrics, which are categorized into two components:

• Clinical Quality – Outstanding and improved performance on clinical quality metrics based on nationally accepted evidence-based guidelines
• Process Improvement – Enhanced patient relationships through the use of e-capabilities, training and education programs and patient safety and satisfaction initiatives

Eligible physicians include primary care specialists such as family practice, general practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics and OB-GYN providers who participate in NetworkBlue and treat a high volume of members.  Physicians participating in the RPE program are identified in the Plan’s online provider directory by the RPE icon.
